Excited to be at work!

Subject: Excited to be at work!

Dear Islanders:

I’m sitting at Town Hall right now as I write this, excited about my first official day of work tomorrow! I'm about to leave, but before I go home I wanted to put up a quick message thanking the many, many Islanders who shared your kind words of encouragement over the past few days.

I was humbled by how many of you came to the “swearing in” ceremony and to our get-together that evening. Like I said that night, there is so much optimism and excitement right now on Grand Island. We have a real opportunity before us to build on the pride we all feel for our home.

But we must be prepared for the hard work ahead. And on those occasions when I stumble and fail, we must ignore those who may sneer with delight. Schadenfreude is a powerful impulse for some. So as I asked on Friday, please help to stop any negativity from seeping in and hampering our resolve. Again and again, together we must get up, go up, and face with courage the challenges before us.

I want to share a few recent articles that may be of some interest to you, in case you missed them.

First there was a profile piece in The Buffalo News on me that you may have not seen, which you can read by clicking here.

And Grand Island News.com had a piece on the “swearing in” (including a full video), which you can read by clicking here.

Also, for those of you who could not attend either event Friday, please see the pictures below.

Again, thank you Grand Island! And please accept my humble invitation to get excited, get involved, and help us move our town ahead. Whether you voted for me or not, I need you and this town needs you. If you want to be part of the future of Grand Island, please reach out and come see me. There are many volunteer organizations that need new members. And you 're always welcome at Town Hall!

Finally, please feel welcome to come and see the first board meeting of the new Grand Island Town Board at 8:00 pm tomorrow at Town Hall, upstairs in the courtroom.

With sincere regards,

Town Supervisor McMurray (“Nate”)
